Thurgau
Thurgau is a tourism region in north-eastern Switzerland, stretching along the southern shore of Lake Constance (Bodensee) and the Untersee and Rhine. It is a gently rolling, rural landscape of orchards, vineyards and soft hills rather than high mountains, dominated by its lakes and rivers. The region is known for its apple orchards and wine-growing slopes, with a rich cultural landscape of castles, monasteries and museums. Towns such as Frauenfeld, Romanshorn, Kreuzlingen and Arbon anchor the region, while much of the area remains green and natural. Thurgau is a popular destination for cycling, hiking and water activities, and is well connected by rail, ship and road across the wider Lake Constance area.
Summer activities
In summer Thurgau is a paradise for water lovers, with swimming spots, lidos and strandbars along Lake Constance, the Untersee and the Rhine, plus stand-up paddling, canoeing and boat trips. The region offers extensive cycling on some 900 kilometres of signposted routes and many hiking trails through orchards and vineyards, including themed wine walks and family-friendly routes. Events such as the slowUp Bodensee and the Paddel-Parade round out the summer season.
Culture and entertainment
Thurgau's cultural life is woven into its landscape, with castles, monasteries and museums spread across the region, including a notable art museum and historical and natural history museums. The region hosts open-air theatre, open-air cinema, music festivals and art exhibitions, as well as guided town tours and themed cultural walks.
