Plättli Zoo is a privately run zoo located on the southeastern edge of Frauenfeld, Switzerland, on a hill towards Oberkirch/Herten. The zoo keeps a variety of animals including Barbary macaques, raccoons, lions, pumas, chimpanzees, camels, donkeys, ponies, pigs and more, and features a petting zoo with dwarf goats and domestic sheep. Visitors can enjoy a large playground, a picnic and barbecue area, pony rides, and an on-site restaurant. The zoo also offers guided tours, school programmes, and animal sponsorship opportunities.

  • Can I visit the restaurant without paying zoo admission?
    Yes, the Restaurant Plättli is also accessible to guests without zoo admission.
  • Are dogs allowed in the zoo?
    No, dogs are generally not allowed in Plättli Zoo. An exception applies to trained assistance and guide dogs with ID and badge, which must be registered in advance.
  • Is there a barbecue area in the zoo?
    Yes, there is a picnic and barbecue area in the rear part of the zoo near the raccoons and Barbary macaques, with covered seating, shade, play equipment, a lookout tower and free firewood. The barbecue cannot be reserved.
  • When does pony riding take place?
    In good weather, pony riding is offered on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons, and daily during school holidays. It does not take place in hot temperatures for animal welfare reasons and ends by 16:30 in summer and 15:30 in winter.
  • Is the zoo accessible for people with disabilities?
    Yes, the zoo places great value on accessibility for all people and provides information via Pro Infirmis.
  • Can all animals be fed?
    No. It is indicated at the enclosures when a species may not be fed. Only food purchased in the zoo may be fed to the animals.
