Castell Castle Ruins

The Castell castle ruins in Tägerwilen (Switzerland) are a medieval fortification on a hill of the Seerücken, built in the 12th century by Constance Bishop Ulrich I and destroyed in 1499 during the Swabian War. The ruins lie on sandstone and include visible remains of the keep, palas, ring wall and towers. A lookout tower with a viewing platform offers a wide view over the surroundings. The association Friends of the Castell Ruins offers guided tours of the site.

Opening hours

The ruins are freely accessible at all times. The lookout tower is open on weekdays and every first full weekend of the month from 11:00 to 18:00 (until 17:00 in the winter months).

    Yes, the barbecue area is intended exactly for that purpose. Firewood is available in the small hut at the foot of the castle hill.
  • Is the ruins suitable for events or can it be rented?
    No, the ruins cannot be rented or reserved. Small birthday parties or family celebrations are possible, but the site has no electricity, water or sanitary facilities.
  • Can I visit the ruins with a wheelchair?
    No. The site is only accessible via a gravel path and then a staircase, and the access is not suitable for a walker or wheelchair.
  • Can I learn more about the ruins and their history through a guided tour?
