Nyon Region
The Nyon Region lies in western Switzerland between Geneva and Lausanne, on the shores of Lake Geneva (Lac Léman) in the canton of Vaud. It is a varied landscape that combines the cosmopolitan lakeside of La Côte with the rolling vineyards of the region's largest wine-growing area, the hills and rivers of the countryside, and the high Jura mountains rising to the Dôle. The city of Nyon, with its Roman heritage and lively festival scene, forms the central hub of the region, which also includes the lakeside towns of Rolle, Coppet and Gland and the Jura resort of St-Cergue. Rich in history, with numerous castles and museums, the region blends cultural vibrancy with abundant nature, from the shores of Lake Geneva to the forests and pastures of the Parc Jura Vaudois.
Summer activities
Summer in the Nyon Region is defined by Lake Geneva and the Jura. The lakeside towns and villages offer beaches, swimming pools and a wide range of water sports, from sailing schools and boat rental to stand-up paddle, kayak and pedalo hire. Inland, the vineyards of La Côte invite discovery on foot, by bike or by Segway, while the Parc Jura Vaudois and the heights around St-Cergue and the Dôle offer extensive hiking trails, including the multi-stage L'Échappée Jurassienne. Mountain biking, e-bike tours and gravel routes complete the outdoor offer.
Winter activities
Winter turns the Jura heights of the Nyon Region into a snow-sports destination centred on the family resort of St-Cergue. Skiers can enjoy the slopes of the Dôle and Jura sur Léman ski area, with ski lifts in St-Cergue and St-George, night skiing on illuminated pistes, and ski schools. Around 120 km of cross-country ski trails in the St-Cergue, La Givrine and La Cure area offer classic and skating techniques, while numerous snowshoe itineraries and winter hiking trails cross the Parc Jura Vaudois. Sledging, dog-sledding, ice rinks and equipment rental round out the winter offer.
Culture and entertainment
The Nyon Region is a lively cultural destination, with the city of Nyon at its heart. Nyon is known as a city of festivals, hosting six major events between February and August, including the Paléo Festival, one of Europe's largest open-air music festivals, the documentary film festival Visions du Réel, and the far° festival of performing arts. The region is rich in museums and castles, from the Roman museum and the Château de Nyon to the Château de Prangins, home of the Swiss National Museum's French-speaking branch, and the Château de Coppet, once the salon of Madame de Staël. Art galleries, theatres, concert halls and a lively bar and nightlife scene complete the cultural offering.
