Arosa Lenzerheide
Arosa Lenzerheide is a mountain holiday region in the canton of Graubünden in eastern Switzerland, combining the two resort areas of Arosa and Lenzerheide into one large alpine destination. The region is dominated by high mountains and high valleys rather than lakes, with the Heidsee lake near Lenzerheide and the Untersee in Arosa as notable bodies of water. It is a rural, nature-focused destination centred on the villages of Arosa, Lenzerheide, Valbella, Churwalden, Parpan, Lantsch/Lenz and Vaz/Obervaz, with no large cities. The area is known for its extensive hiking and biking networks, its family-friendly character, and its strong winter sports tradition. Arosa lies in the Schanfigg valley, while Lenzerheide sits on a sunny high plateau, together forming one of the largest ski areas in Graubünden. Cultural life is modest but present, with local museums, music festivals and traditional events such as alpabzüge and alphorn gatherings.
Summer activities
In summer, Arosa Lenzerheide is a hiking and biking paradise. The region offers over 260 kilometres of hiking trails, themed trails, viewpoints and fireplaces, as well as trail running routes. The Bike Kingdom, shared with Chur, is one of the largest mountain biking areas in Graubünden, with a bike park in Lenzerheide featuring five trails of varying difficulty, a skill centre and pumptrack. Families can enjoy the squirrel trail, bear sanctuary, rope parks, playgrounds and the Heidsee bathing lake with water sports such as stand-up paddleboarding and windsurfing. Golf, tennis, fishing, biathlon in summer and the Lenzerheide sports centre round out the offer.
Winter activities
Winter is the region's core season. The Arosa Lenzerheide ski area is one of the largest in Graubünden, with 225 kilometres of groomed slopes up to 2865 metres above sea level, a snow park with four areas, children's skiing areas and family slopes, and ski schools. Lenzerheide is a leading cross-country skiing destination with an extensive trail network and the only permanently installed biathlon facility in Switzerland. Winter hiking, snowshoeing, sledging, ice sports, ski touring and the multisensory LIGHT RIDE tobogganing experience round out the winter offer.
Culture and entertainment
Cultural life in Arosa Lenzerheide is modest but lively, centred on local heritage and a busy calendar of festivals and events. Arosa hosts a humour festival, a classic car event, jazz days, electronic music events, a gay ski week and classical music concerts, while Lenzerheide offers music festivals, alphorn gatherings, alpabzüge and the winter Magic Forest light festival. Local museums in Arosa, Langwies and Zorten document the region's history and the development of tourism, and the Schanfigg valley preserves a distinctive cultural heritage.
