Arosa Bear Sanctuary

The Arosa Bear Sanctuary is a bear conservation centre located at 2,000 metres above sea level in Arosa, Switzerland, established in cooperation with Arosa Tourism and FOUR PAWS. It provides a species-appropriate home for rescued brown bears that previously lived in circuses, restaurants and zoos. Visitors can observe the bears in their natural mountain enclosure, explore a floating adventure trail with viewing platforms, and visit an exhibition on animal welfare. The sanctuary also offers a visitor platform, a bear-themed playground, a theme trail and a bear mini-golf course.

  • Are dogs allowed at the Arosa Bear Sanctuary?
    Dogs are allowed on a lead in the Arosa Bear Sanctuary, but they are not permitted to enter the adventure trail. A dog parking area with water and shade is available before the suspension bridge. Assistance dogs are permitted on the adventure trail.
  • Is the Arosa Bear Sanctuary accessible for wheelchair users?
    Yes, the visitor platform and adventure trail are accessible by wheelchair. Two all-terrain electric wheelchairs are available at the middle station of the Arosa-Weisshorn cable car and must be reserved in advance. There is an accessible toilet at the middle station, but the Bear Sanctuary itself does not have accessible toilets.
  • How do I get to the Arosa Bear Sanctuary?
    The first section of the Arosa-Weisshorn cable car takes you directly to the visitor platform at the Arosa Bear Sanctuary. You can also reach it on foot from Arosa via several routes, including the Ricola Adventure Trail from the Prättschli bus stop, the Squirrel Trail, or the Bear Sanctuary theme trail. By rail, the Rhaetian Railway runs from Chur to Arosa, with the station located next to the cable car valley station.
  • Is the Bear Sanctuary ticket valid for the whole day?
    Yes, the ticket for the Arosa Bear Sanctuary is a one-day ticket. For re-entry, please contact the cashier or the staff on site.

    The sanctuary currently houses four rescued brown bears: Sam and Jamila, two siblings from Skopje Zoo, and Amelia and Meimo, two former restaurant bears from Albania. The bears live in a large enclosure of 28,000 m² with shelters, an indoor enclosure and an outdoor enclosure.

    Yes, public guided tours in small groups are bookable online for Tuesday and Thursday, conducted exclusively in German. Private group tours and exclusive behind-the-scenes tours are available on request, as well as guided tours for schools and for people with disabilities.
