Willisau
The Willisau region lies in the Luzerner Hinterland of central Switzerland, at the foot of the Napf mountain. It is a rural, lowland area characterised by the unspoilt nature of the Napf region, the wide plain of the Wauwilermoos and a varied countryside dotted with countless farmsteads and pretty villages. The medieval town of Willisau, with its generous old town, is the economic and cultural centre of the region and the starting point for the popular E-Bike Herzroute. The area is rich in nature reserves, viewpoints and historic buildings, and offers a lively cultural scene with concerts, festivals and museums. With its 16 municipalities, the region combines tradition and modernity in a landscape of rolling hills, rivers and forests.
Summer activities
In summer the Willisau region is a paradise for hikers and cyclists. Panoramic hikes lead through the Napf area to the highest viewpoints of the region, while themed trails, family walks and fire pits invite visitors to explore. The area is a well-known cycling destination, with the E-Bike Herzroute and the Route 1291 passing through Willisau, plus bike rental and a bike school. Nature experiences such as llama and goat trekking, forest bathing and guided excursions round off the outdoor offer.
Culture and entertainment
The Willisau region has a lively cultural scene with national and international reach. The Jazz Festival Willisau is a highlight, bringing established names and new voices together over five days, alongside the Stimmen Festival in Ettiswil, open-air cinema at Wasserschloss Wyher, the Städtli Sommer and carnival (Fasnacht). A varied museum landscape, from a regional local history museum to the Swiss Agricultural Museum Burgrain, plus guided town and castle tours, round out the cultural offer.
