Textilmuseum Sorntal

The Textilmuseum Sorntal in Niederbüren (Canton of St. Gallen, Switzerland) is the only technical textile museum in the Canton of St. Gallen. In a former spinning mill building built in 1850 and renovated in 1994, the recreated 'Museumsfabrik' shows historical, operational textile machines from the dawn of industrialisation on around 900 square metres of exhibition space. Across three floors, working machines, wooden tools from the cottage industry, and an archive with fabric sample books, documents and a textile library are presented. The museum offers insights into the industrial and social history of the 19th/20th century and the world of work of the past, and is listed in the national cultural property protection register.

Families and Kids

Children and young people up to 16 pay a reduced admission on group tours. The tours last about 1.5 hours and show working historical textile machines that are also demonstrated.
