Sempachersee
The Sempachersee region lies in the heart of Switzerland, in the canton of Lucerne, around the lake of the same name between the towns of Sursee and Sempach. It is a rural, gently rolling landscape of the Swiss Plateau, framed by soft hills and with views of the Central Swiss Alps on the horizon. The region is dominated by the lake and its shores, with the small historic town of Sempach and the regional hub of Sursee at its centre. It offers a lively mix of nature, water sports, hiking and cycling, a young wine region and a growing craft-beer scene, as well as a rich cultural and historical heritage. Numerous villages and municipalities around the lake give the area a distinctly rural, family-friendly character, while Sursee acts as the main transport and service centre.
Summer activities
In summer the Sempachersee region is a paradise for water lovers and active holidaymakers. Several lake and outdoor pools line the shores, while boat rental, fishing, rowing, windsurfing and stand-up paddling are offered on the lake. A dense network of hiking trails and themed paths, including family-friendly trails, invites exploration, and numerous signposted cycling and e-bike routes plus a gravel region make the area popular with cyclists. Grill sites, a beer trail and urban golf round out the warm-season offer.
Culture and entertainment
The Sempachersee region has a lively cultural life centred on the historic towns of Sempach and Sursee. Museums, guided tours and the region's distinctive sacred landscape of churches and chapels tell the story of its history, including the famous 1386 Battle of Sempach. Several theatre and music stages, from the Stifttheater Beromünster to the Stadttheater Sursee, host performances and concerts, while festivals such as the Stimmen Festival Ettiswil and the Nachteulen Festival Sursee add to the calendar.
