Nendaz
Nendaz is a mountain resort region in the heart of the Swiss Alps, located in the canton of Valais in southwestern Switzerland. It is a rural, high-mountain destination centred on the Val de Nendaz, with the resort villages of Haute-Nendaz, Siviez and Veysonnaz as its main hubs. The region is dominated by high peaks, including the Mont-Fort at 3,330 metres, and is not defined by a lake but by mountain pastures, forests and the historic irrigation channels known as bisses. Nendaz is part of the 4 Vallées ski area, the largest in Switzerland, and offers extensive hiking, mountain biking and trail running in summer. The region has a strong cultural identity, known as the capital of the alphorn, and preserves traditional villages, chapels and local heritage. It is a nature-focused destination with no big cities, combining authentic alpine character with a wide range of outdoor activities.
Summer activities
Summer in Nendaz is defined by an extensive network of outdoor activities. Over 250 km of hiking trails, 200 km of mountain bike and e-bike routes, and 18 trail running tracks criss-cross the region, including walks along the historic bisses and themed trails. Six mountain lifts open in summer, giving access to the Mont-Fort at 3,330 metres, where visitors find the world's highest zipline, via ferratas, a via cordata and a glacier path. The region also offers paragliding, an outdoor swimming pool, tennis, climbing towers, a pumptrack and family-friendly activities such as treasure hunts and pushchair walks.
Winter activities
Nendaz is the beating heart of the 4 Vallées, the largest ski area in Switzerland, with 410 km of slopes linking Verbier, Nendaz, Veysonnaz and Thyon via the Mont-Fort. The Printse sector offers a further 220 km of runs, ideal for beginners. Beyond downhill skiing and snowboarding, the region offers five ski touring tracks, over 130 km of winter hiking trails, seven snowshoe trails, two cross-country skiing tracks, snowtubing, an open-air ice rink and a sledge run from Tortin. Winter events include torchlight descents and full-moon skiing evenings.
Culture and entertainment
Nendaz is known as the capital of the alphorn, with a deep-rooted tradition celebrated through an international alphorn festival, competitions and local groups. The region preserves a rich heritage of traditional villages, historic chapels and churches, and local products such as apricots, raspberries and Hérens cows. The Le Nînd'Art house of culture in Haute-Nendaz hosts exhibitions and events throughout the year, and monumental artworks by artist Antoine Guignard decorate wooden barns in the area. A film festival and the Nendaz Snow Vibes Festival add to the cultural calendar.
