Mammoth Museum

The Mammoth Museum in Niederweningen (Switzerland) offers an insight into the spectacular Ice Age finds of Niederweningen, the richest mammoth discovery site in Switzerland. Along the 'Time Path', the exhibition leads from settlement in historical times to the plant and animal world of the Ice Age and further back to the creatures of the tropical Jurassic sea. On display are, among others, the mammoth skeleton from the 2003 find, a 2.50 m long mammoth tusk, the reconstruction of a newborn mammoth calf as well as fossils of woolly rhinoceros, wild horse, steppe bison, wolf and cave hyena. Ice ages and climate change of the past 500,000 years are shown with impressive images of ice cover and landscape development. The museum also hosts changing temporary exhibitions.

The Mammoth Museum offers children interactive touchscreen stations, a quiz station and hands-on display material. Worksheets are available for school classes, and special children's offers such as the Stone Age workshop take place regularly.
