Hexenmuseum Schweiz

The Hexenmuseum Schweiz in Gränichen (Canton Aargau) is a private museum in Liebegg Castle and the only one of its kind in German-speaking Europe. The permanent exhibition "HEXEN" (Witches) presents the witch trials in Switzerland and Europe and examines their impact up to the present day. The collection comprises over 1,300 exhibits spread over around 275 m², including amulets, witch plants, divination tools such as tarot and runes, as well as objects relating to Swiss folk belief and superstition. It also includes a herb garden on the terrace and a museum café in summer. The museum also hosts changing special exhibitions.

Opening hours

The museum is open on selected Wednesday and Sunday afternoons from 13:00 to 17:00 in summer/autumn 2026, with additional full moon and dark moon evenings. Last admission 45 minutes before closing.

  • From what age may children visit the Hexenmuseum?
    Children are admitted only from age 11, even when accompanied by adults. Prams and buggies are not permitted in the museum for space reasons.
  • Is the museum accessible for wheelchair users?
    No, the Hexenmuseum is not wheelchair accessible as there is no lift in the castle and the exhibition is only reachable via a staircase with uneven stone steps. It is largely accessible for people with a mild walking impairment.

    No, backpacks, bags and liquids may not be taken into the exhibition. Please travel with small luggage; bags must be deposited at the ticket desk.
