Habsburg Castle

Habsburg Castle in Habsburg, Switzerland, is the ancestral seat of the Habsburg dynasty, where the foundation stone of the dynasty was laid around 1030. The museum presents the history of the legendary castle and its noble family through exhibitions, guided tours and events. A permanent exhibition in the tower of the rear castle shows the building and settlement history, daily life, food and water supply in the Middle Ages. The Habsburg Kings' Route conveys the rise of the Habsburgs to a world power at six audio stations, and the castle also hosts changing temporary exhibitions.

From 1 April to 1 November 2026 open Tuesday to Sunday and on holidays from 10:00 to 17:00; closed on Mondays. In winter the castle is open during the restaurant's opening hours.

  • Is the castle accessible with a wheelchair or stroller?
    Due to the historic building fabric, large parts of the castle and exhibition areas are only accessible via stairs. The exhibition rooms are not wheelchair accessible, and the museum is not passable with a stroller. The castle courtyard is gravel but passable with a wheelchair and rollator, and the restaurant is accessible without steps.
  • Are dogs allowed on the castle grounds?
    Dogs are not allowed in the exhibition rooms (tower), with the exception of assistance dogs for people with disabilities. At individual events, dogs are not permitted for operational reasons.
  • Is picnicking allowed at the castle?
    Picnicking is allowed in the castle courtyard, where benches and tables are available. Eating and drinking inside the castle is not permitted. Several fire pits are available along the hiking trails around the castle.
