Fort de Chillon

The Fort de Chillon (ouvrage A390) in Veytaux, Switzerland, is a former Swiss army bunker built in 1941 during the Second World War, located on the shores of Lake Geneva opposite the Château de Chillon. Classified as a top-secret military site until 2001 and opened as a museum in 2020, it tells the story of the Swiss national redoubt and the daily life of the soldiers who occupied it until 1995. The immersive and interactive visit covers over 2,000 m² of underground galleries, with quizzes, strategy games and virtual reality. The museum also hosts changing temporary exhibitions.

  • Is the Fort accessible to wheelchair users?
    No, the Fort, a historic monument, is not adapted for wheelchair users. It can however be visited if accompanied by people who help you cross the few steps at the entrance and along the route.
  • Can I bring my pet to the museum?
    No, pets are not allowed in the museum, with the exception of guide dogs for blind people and people with reduced mobility.
  • Is it cold inside the Fort?
    Not at all. Thanks to its dry air and ideal temperature of 19°C all year round, the visit is ideal when it rains or during periods of strong heat.
  • Are guided tours offered?
    The museum is currently discovered independently using the plan provided at reception, following the floor markings. Members of the Friends of the Fort association offer commented visits, available for the moment in French, with advance booking required.
  • Is the visit suitable for young children?
    Yes, the museum is accessible for children from 3 years old thanks to its playful scenography. The route is accessible with a pushchair, although a baby carrier is recommended as the Fort has stairs.
  • Is booking required to visit?
    Reservations are not obligatory but are strongly recommended to avoid waiting during high attendance, as the museum can only accommodate a limited number of visitors per time slot.
