Bourbaki Panorama

The Bourbaki Panorama in Lucerne, Switzerland, is one of the most significant and best-preserved panoramas in the world. Spanning 1,200 m² of painted canvas, the circular painting tells the story of the internment of 87,000 French soldiers in the winter of 1871. Painted in 1881 by Edouard Castres, the painting combines art, architecture and storytelling with a timeless message of peace. Set within a vibrant cultural centre featuring a cinema, art gallery and bar, the museum offers a varied programme of special exhibitions, guided tours and events as well as changing temporary exhibitions.

    Yes, the museum is also accessible for visitors with reduced mobility. As there is no passenger lift directly to the circular painting, a stair lift operated and accompanied by museum staff is available, covering two floors. Please allow some extra time for this.
