Grächen

Grächen
Grächen is a winter sports resort in Valais with the Hannigalp ski area, which extends from 1,619 m up to 2,864 m. The area offers around 44 kilometres of slopes for all levels, several chairlifts and surface lifts, a snowpark, a family park and two official sledging runs.

On the Hannigalp, children find a snowpark aimed at younger guests, a family park with beginner slopes and a short, flat sledging run in the SiSu Family Park. An indoor playground with a free day nursery lets kids play for two hours while parents ski.

Food and drinks

On the mountain there are several places to stop for food and drinks, including the Bergrestaurant Hannigalp, the Hannighüsli, the Schnööbar and the Stafelbar. In the surrounding area, the Jungeralp mountain restaurant serves homemade regional specialities and mountain huts such as the Topalihütte and Europahütte offer traditional and vegetarian dishes.

Admission fees

Grächen uses a flexible pricing model: an algorithm recalculates ticket prices every night based on season, weekday, booking date, demand and, later on, the weather forecast, so early bookers pay less. Flexible prices apply to day and multi-day tickets, family season tickets and the Rookie Pass, while group, school, pedestrian and annual tickets are excluded. A Rookie Pass gives beginners access to the Talentschmiede, Family Park, Härdera lifts and sledging run, and every ticket can be insured.

FAQ

  • How does the flexible pricing model at Grächen work?
An algorithm recalculates ticket prices every night based on season, day of the week, booking date, demand and, at a later stage, the weather forecast. Prices do not change within a single day, and booking early secures the lowest price.
  • What does the Rookie Pass include?
The Rookie Pass gives beginners access to the Talentschmiede learning area, the Family Park beginner slopes, the two Härdera lifts for practising lift riding and the sledging run.
  • Can I reach the slopes by public transport?
With a valid ski pass, the ski bus is free during the operating hours of the Grächen mountain railway and connects St. Niklaus, Gasenried, Niedergrächen and Grächen. Free travel applies only to winter sports activities and not to arrival, departure, dogs or bicycles.
  • What is there for children and families at the Hannigalp?
On the Hannigalp there is a snowpark aimed at younger guests, a family park with beginner slopes, a short sledging run in the SiSu Family Park and an indoor playground with a free day nursery where children can play for two hours.
  • What are the sledging options in Grächen?
There are two official sledging runs starting from the Hannigalp: a steep three-kilometre run through the forest down to Z'Seew, which is demanding, and a short, flat run in the SiSu Family Park suited to beginners and young children.
  • Is there a ski school and ski rental in Grächen?
Yes, Grächen has ski and snowboard schools with instructors for beginners and advanced skiers of all ages, and equipment can be hired locally and stored in modern ski depots in the village centre.
