Alimentarium

The Alimentarium in Vevey, Switzerland, is the world's first food-themed museum, exploring the many aspects of the human diet. Its permanent exhibition invites visitors to reflect on the global food system and the challenges it faces regarding global health and the environment, featuring video installations, photographs, contemporary artworks and nearly 500 heritage objects. The museum also includes an urban vegetable garden with over 300 edible plants, an educational kitchen and a Junior area with games on food and nutrition. It hosts changing temporary exhibitions and offers a wide range of culinary workshops and activities.

Families and Kids

The Alimentarium offers a Junior area with a child-friendly kitchen and over 25 games on food and nutrition, as well as culinary workshops for children. Children's birthday parties are available, and cooking workshops are open to visitors from 6 years old if accompanied by an adult, or from 10 years old independently. Children under 10 years old must be supervised by an adult.

  • Is the museum accessible to visitors with reduced mobility?
    Yes. All exhibition floors are accessible by lift, accessible toilets are located on the second floor, and a wheelchair and walker are available on request from Reception. The entrance for people with reduced mobility is marked.
  • Are there lockers available for storing personal belongings?
    Yes. Self-service lockers are available on the ground floor for the public to store their personal belongings, except for luggage exceeding 55cm x 35cm x 20cm. All items must be removed on the same day before the museum closes.
  • Are dogs allowed in the museum?
    Dogs and other pets are not allowed in the museum, the café, the garden or on the café terrace, except for assistance animals. Guide and assistance dogs are welcome throughout the museum.
  • Are there adapted facilities for visitors with visual or cognitive disabilities?
    Yes. At the reception desk, kits adapted for visually impaired people are available, including reading glasses, backlit lamps, magnifying glasses and binoculars. For people with cognitive or neuroatypical disabilities, noise-cancelling headphones, anti-stress balls, weighted blankets and a visual hourglass are provided.
  • Can I visit the museum with a stroller or pushchair?
    The museum provides an elevator for moving between floors. Visitors are asked not to use the stairs while carrying a wheelchair or stroller, and to use the elevator instead.
