Aigle-Leysin-Les Mosses
Aigle-Leysin-Les Mosses is a tourism region in the Swiss canton of Vaud, in the French-speaking part of Switzerland. It forms part of the wider Alpes Vaudoises destination, stretching from the Rhône valley town of Aigle up through the mountain resorts of Leysin and the Col des Mosses. The region combines a rural, wine-growing lowland around Aigle with high Alpine terrain, dominated by peaks such as the Berneuse and the Pic Chaussy rather than by a lake. It is a lively, family-oriented area with a strong cycling culture, home to the UCI World Cycling Centre, and offers abundant nature, vineyards and mountain pastures. The town of Aigle, with its medieval castle and wine museum, lies at the centre of the region and is the gateway to the mountain villages above. The area is known for its heritage, gastronomy and year-round outdoor activities.
Summer activities
In summer, the Aigle-Leysin-Les Mosses region is a playground for hikers and cyclists. The Leysin Bike Park offers downhill and enduro trails, while the surrounding mountains provide via ferrata routes, climbing spots and paragliding take-offs. Mountain lakes such as Lac Lioson and Lac Retaud invite swimming and picnicking, and the region's vineyards around Aigle and Ollon are explored on foot or by bike. Family-friendly adventure parks, mountain carts and summer tobogganing complete the offer.
Winter activities
In winter, the region offers the Leysin-Les Mosses-La Lécherette ski area with over 100 km of pistes, beginner areas, freeride zones and a snowpark, plus the higher Glacier 3000 with its legendary Red Run and Combe d'Audon descents. The Col des Mosses is a hub for cross-country skiing with around 40 km of trails in the Espace Nordique, while Les Diablerets and Bex add further nordic circuits. Tobogganing runs, husky sledding, ice climbing and winter hiking round out the winter offer.
Culture and entertainment
The region has a distinctive cultural and heritage character. Aigle is home to a medieval castle housing the Museum of Vine, Wine and Labels, while Bex is known for its historic salt mines and the contemporary sculpture triennial Bex & Arts. The villages preserve traditional chalet architecture and local crafts such as paper cutting, and the Ailyos art-and-nature exhibition places contemporary works in the landscape around Aigle, Leysin and the Col des Mosses. Local festivals, markets and wine events animate the towns throughout the year.
