Abenteuerland Walter Zoo

Walter Zoo in Gossau SG, Switzerland, is a scientifically managed zoo and member of WAZA, EAZA, VdZ, zooschweiz and IUCN. It houses over 1000 animals from around 100 different species in naturalistic outdoor enclosures and animal houses such as the tropical house, reptile house and savannah house. As a zoo-based conservation organisation it is involved in over 20 breeding programmes and operates a hedgehog and wild bird care station. The zoo also offers a zoo theatre, guided tours, animal encounters and changing temporary exhibitions.

  • Are dogs allowed in the zoo?
    Yes, dogs are allowed free of charge but must be kept on a short leash. At certain facilities (tropical house, upper floor of the reptile house, savannah house and zoo school) dogs must wait outside.

    Yes, feeding is allowed for some animals with the zoo's own feed (hay pellets). Animal feed is available at the zoo ticket office and at certain shops in the zoo.
  • Are there lockers in the zoo?
    No, there are no lockers. Bags without valuables can be deposited at the pergola directly at the entrance, but the zoo assumes no liability.
  • Is the zoo wheelchair accessible?
    Yes, the zoo is wheelchair accessible, although the grounds have slopes and inclines. Wheelchair-accessible toilets are also available, and two wheelchairs can be reserved for use.
  • Can I pay by card in the zoo?
    Yes, debit and credit cards are accepted at the ticket office, in the zoo restaurant, at the entrance kiosk, in the zoo shop and at various food stands. Euros are also accepted in cash at a 1:1 rate.
