Aargauer Kunsthaus

The Aargauer Kunsthaus in Aarau, Switzerland, is the leading museum for art from Switzerland, with a collection of more than 21,000 works dating from the 18th century to the present day. The collection includes major works by Albert Anker, Arnold Böcklin, Johann Heinrich Füssli, Caspar Wolf, Cuno Amiet, Ferdinand Hodler, Sophie Taeuber-Arp and many contemporary artists. The museum presents its collection in changing combinations and also hosts changing temporary exhibitions. The building, extended by Herzog & de Meuron in 2003, offers around 3,000 m² of exhibition space.

  • Do I need to book a ticket in advance?
    Yes, all tickets are only available in advance via the ticket shop or the advance booking office aarau info. There is no box office on site.
  • Are there lockers and a cloakroom available?
    Yes, a staffed cloakroom is located in the tent, and further lockers are in the unattended cloakroom in the Kunsthaus basement. The cloakroom and lockers are free of charge.
  • Is photography permitted in the museum?
    Photography without flash is permitted for private purposes, with exceptions labelled. Tripods and selfie sticks are not permitted, and large photo bags and interchangeable lenses must be deposited in the lockers.
  • Can I bring my dog to the museum?
    Dogs, with the exception of guide dogs, cannot be taken into the Kunsthaus. Please book your visit with guide dogs in advance.
  • Is the museum wheelchair accessible?
