After your night in Zinal, a steep path from the village provides an instant wake-up call. The itinerary follows the famous finish of the Sierre-Zinal mountain race but in the opposite direction. Climb above a larch forest to reach a pleasant, gently sloping single track that takes you to the Tsahélet farm. The path then becomes steeper as it heads for the Forcletta pass, which connects the Zinal and Turtmann valleys. This point is the start of both a change of language and rhythm. After a long ascent, it is now time to start a long descent that takes you to the Turtmannsee before a final ascent to the Turtmann hut at 2,523 m with a stone terrace overlooking the glaciers, the Bishorn, the Weisshorn and other impressive 4,000m peaks in the region.

From the Moiry hut, go back on the path on which you arrived the day before. After a two-kilometre descent, when the path intersect, follow the direction of Fêta d'Août de Châteaupré and walk along the entire length of the lake below. A short ascent then takes you to the Sorebois pass, which is the route into the Zinal valley. Don’t miss the view of the Zinalrothorn, the Weisshorn and the Dent Blanche, some of the impressive 4000-metre peaks in the Val d'Anniviers. Cross the mountain pastures where black-nosed sheep graze and make your way through the rocks to Crevache. The path descends steeply for 1,200 metres to the valley, then follows the Navizence River directly to Zinal. This is the first night you not spent in a hut, so enjoy a good shower and visit this welcoming mountain village.

St-Luc is known for its observatory installed above the village. This is where the trail begins, not far from the top station of the St-Luc - Tignousa funicular. The route first follows the Path of the Planets, a human-scale replica of the solar system. Shortly before the end of the theme trail, hikers reach one of the valley's historic jewels: the Hotel Weisshorn, built in 1882 on a panoramic site at an altitude of 2,337 metres. The hike continues south to the heights of the Val d'Anniviers and then into the Val de Zinal, where there is a magnificent view of the “Couronne Impériale”. The trail descends to Zinal, a picturesque village with many larch wood chalets, and the finishing point of the Sierre-Zinal race, also known as the "Course des cinq 4000". On this hike, follow the final stretch of this race, which is often described by participants as one of the most beautiful mountain races in the world.

This high altitude route for trail runners does not follow the most direct line from start to finish, but skirts the buttresses, choosing the most picturesque and practicable paths through the Valais in the heart of the Swiss Alps. Each leg finishes in a charming mountain village or in a hut if the route continues at high altitude.

This hike starts at the top of the Zinal - Sorebois cable car, with a superb view of the Imperial Crown. The path climbs along steep slopes to reach the Sorebois pass, before descending into the Val de Moiry. Below, the Moiry dam holds back the turquoise waters of the lake, fed by the Moiry glacier, nestled at the bottom of the valley. Near the dam, a restaurant with a panoramic terrace, a via ferrata and guided tours of the interior of the dam await you. The second part of the hike is a long and beautiful descent through pastures and forests into the Val de Moiry to Grimentz.

L’escursione inizia all'Hotel Weisshorn e segue le tracce del sentiero di montagna Sierre-Zinal giù fino a Grimentz. Costruito circa 500 anni fa, il canale d'irrigazione «Bisse des Sarrasins» con i suoi 17 pannelli didattici costituisce un autentico punto di interesse sia sul piano storico che tecnico. L'escursione prosegue poi lungo il «Grand Bisse de St-Jean» fino a Grimentz, tipico villaggio vallesano.

Questa tappa va solo in una direzione: in salita. Il sentiero porta prima a zig-zag da Grimentz a Bendolla, poi per un breve tratto, segue la seggiovia, per giungere a Les Crêts, passando per il Lago di Lona e attraverso l'omonimo passo, per poi salire fino al rifugio più alto di questo percorso.
