Valposchiavo
Valposchiavo is a tourism region in the southernmost part of the Swiss canton of Graubünden, bordering Italy and centred on the town of Poschiavo. It is a rural, Alpine valley region shaped by the Bernina mountain range and the Bernina Pass, with the Lago di Poschiavo and Lago di Le Prese lakes at its heart. The region combines high-mountain landscapes with a distinctly Italian-speaking, culturally vibrant character, and is known for its chestnut groves, historic villages and the UNESCO-listed Bernina railway line. Valposchiavo is a place of strong nature and tradition, where the town of Poschiavo acts as the central hub for visitors. Valposchiavo has a lively cultural scene centred on the town of Poschiavo, with museums such as the Museo Poschiavino and Museo Casa Console hosting art exhibitions, and the Tessitura Valposchiavo keeping handweaving traditions alive. The Devon House cineclub offers an open-air summer cinema programme with films from different countries and eras, screened in a historic 19th-century building. The region's calendar is filled with guided tours, treasure hunts for children, markets in the square and themed events, while the annual chestnut week in October culminates in the Sagra della castagna festival in Brusio.
