Tierpark Bern

Tierpark Bern is the public zoo of the Swiss capital city of Bern, consisting of the Dählhölzli zoo in the Dählhölzli forest and the BärenPark bear park in the city centre. With over 200 animal species in spacious, species-appropriate enclosures, visitors can observe native animals such as bears, lynx and wolves as well as rarer species such as moose, musk ox and Arctic fox. The Vivarium houses exotic animals and the largest reef in Switzerland, while the BärenPark offers a free, barrier-free experience of brown bears at the foot of the old town. The zoo is open 365 days a year and is committed to species conservation and environmental education.

The Dählhölzli zoo is open daily from 09:00 to 18:00 from 1 March to 31 October and from 09:00 to 17:00 from 1 November to the end of February, 365 days a year. The BärenPark is open around the clock, 365 days a year.

  • Are dogs allowed in the Dählhölzli zoo?
    Dogs are not allowed in the paid part of the Dählhölzli zoo. There are 4 lockable dog boxes at the exit; keys are available against a deposit of CHF 20 at the Vivarium ticket office. Assistance dogs accompanying a person with a disability are exempt.
  • Can I bring my own food and have a picnic in the zoo?
    Yes, visitors may enjoy their own picnic. Next to the Eulen Bistro there is the popular Brätliplatz with numerous seating areas and picnic tables, as well as a fire pit with grill grate and firewood.
  • Are there public feeding times at the zoo?
    Yes, the zoo offers 4 commented feedings daily, for example with the seals, puffins, big cats, Arctic foxes or monkeys. The seals are fed twice daily, the puffins once daily; other animals are fed at varying times.
  • Is the BärenPark free of charge and when is it open?
    Yes, the BärenPark is freely accessible around the clock, 365 days a year. The animal keepers are present daily from 08:00 to 17:00. Dogs must always be kept on a lead.
  • Are the bears visible all year round in the BärenPark?
    The bears are usually in the enclosure, but sometimes retreat into the bushes. In winter (November to March) they hibernate and are rarely or not at all visible.
  • Is the zoo accessible for wheelchair users and pushchairs?
    The Dählhölzli zoo can be visited largely without obstacles. All paths in the zoo and the Aare riverside path are suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs. Free loan wheelchairs are available at the Vivarium ticket office against a deposit of CHF 50. The BärenPark is barrier-free and accessible via the free BäreBähnli inclined lift.
