Stockalper Palace

The Stockalper Palace in Brig, Switzerland, is a three-towered Baroque palace built in the mid-17th century by the merchant Kaspar Stockalper vom Thurm. It is considered the landmark of the Upper Valais region and the mightiest secular Baroque building in present-day Switzerland. The palace can only be visited on a guided tour, while the inner courtyard and castle garden are freely accessible. It houses the municipal administration, the district court, the Stockalper Palace museum with its 'Passage Simplon' exhibition and other cultural institutions.

Guided tours run Tuesday to Sunday. In summer (1 May to 31 October) at 9:30, 10:30, 13:30, 14:30, 15:30 and 16:30; in winter (1 December to 30 April) at 14:30. The inner courtyard and castle garden are open daily and freely accessible.

    The interior of the Stockalper Palace can only be visited with a guided tour; all rooms are locked and only accessible with a guide. The inner courtyard and the castle garden, however, are open daily and freely accessible.

    The official guided tour is offered in German. A brochure in French, Italian and English can be purchased in advance. Extra tours for groups can be booked in German, French, English or Italian.
