Spiez Castle

Schloss Spiez is a historic castle and museum in Spiez, Switzerland, on the shores of Lake Thun. The castle museum presents the 1300-year history of the site and its former residents from three noble families, from the medieval residential tower of Heinrich von Strättligen to the Baroque festival hall of Franz Ludwig von Erlach. The complex also includes the 1000-year-old Romanesque castle church with unique 13th- and 14th-century frescoes, as well as gardens, a herb garden and a rose garden. The castle also hosts changing temporary art exhibitions.

Families and Kids

Schloss Spiez offers a range of activities for children and families, including the Rittertrail knight trail for ages 6-12, hands-on stations in the tower, and family tours suitable from age 5. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult in the museum. The museum is not accessible with a stroller.

Opening hours

Open during the season from May 1 to October 31: Monday 14:00-17:00, Tuesday to Sunday 10:00-17:00, and until 18:00 in July and August. The castle is closed during the winter break from November 1 to April 30.

  • Is the castle museum accessible for wheelchair users?
    No. The permanent exhibition in the castle is only accessible via stairs and is not wheelchair accessible. The special exhibition room is accessible by lift and wheelchair accessible. A wheelchair-accessible toilet is located in the Neuschloss.

    No. The museum is not accessible with a stroller. A changing facility is located in the basement.
