Schutzbauten Welschdörfli

The Schutzbauten Welschdörfli in Chur, Switzerland, protect Roman excavations on the Ackermann site on Seilerbahnweg. Built in 1986 according to designs by the Grisons architect Peter Zumthor, the protective structures serve as a small museum and architectural jewel. In Welschdörfli, the old town district south of the Plessur, several prehistoric settlements and remains of a Roman road station were discovered. The delicate louvered structure of the buildings impressively evokes the former dimensions of the Roman complex.
