Ruins of Pont-en-Ogoz

The ruins of Pont-en-Ogoz on the Île d'Ogoz in the canton of Fribourg, Switzerland, are the most visible remains of the medieval site of Pont-en-Ogoz, built on a rounded peninsula formed by a meander of the Sarine river. The twin towers and adjoining buildings formed two distinct castles, seats of co-lordships, each with a habitable keep and residential buildings. The site, which also includes a medieval chapel, was abandoned in the early 15th century, and the meander lobe became an island after the construction of the Rossens dam in 1948.

    The island can be reached on foot when the lake level is below 668 m above sea level, or by boat from the port of Le Bry. By public transport, take the bus from Bulle or Fribourg station to 'Le Bry, village' and walk down to the Port du Bry.

    Boat cruises run from May to October. On Sundays, departures are at 14:00 and 15:30, weather permitting. On weekdays, cruises are available by reservation only.
