Museum Tinguely

The Museum Tinguely in Basel, Switzerland, houses the world's largest collection of works by Swiss kinetic artist Jean Tinguely (1925–1991). The permanent collection presentation "La roue = c'est tout" showcases four decades of his career, from early wire sculptures and Meta-Matic drawing machines to monumental machine sculptures of the 1980s. The museum also hosts a dynamic program of changing temporary exhibitions that engage with contemporary art and societal themes.

Families and Kids

The museum offers family-friendly guided tours every second and last Saturday of the month, family Sundays with drop-in workshops, a children's club (ages 8+), and birthday parties. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Pushchairs can be exchanged for a museum buggy.

  • Is the museum wheelchair accessible?
    Yes, the entire museum is wheelchair accessible. Wheelchairs and folding chairs can be borrowed. Disabled parking spaces are available at the museum entrance on Grenzacherstrasse.
  • Can I take photos inside the museum?
    Photography and filming without flash and tripod are permitted in the exhibition rooms, except in special exhibitions where lenders explicitly prohibit it. Selfie sticks are not allowed.
  • Is there a cloakroom or locker for luggage?
    Yes, backpacks, large bags (larger than A4) and other travel luggage must be left in the cloakroom. Umbrellas must also be left in the cloakroom.
  • Are there guided tours in sign language?
    Yes, public guided tours in sign language with Lua Leirner are offered on regular dates. Participation is free of charge for the tour (museum admission is free for participants). Private guided tours in sign language can also be booked.
