Museum Appenzell

Museum Appenzell in Appenzell (Switzerland) is dedicated to the rural, Catholic-influenced cultural history of the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden. Its focus is on folklore and popular everyday culture, including the once world-famous Appenzell hand embroidery, peasant and furniture painting, the history of tourism and popular piety. The extensive collection comprises around 30,000 objects as well as a significant photo collection spanning three centuries. The museum is housed in the Buherre Hanisefs building and the upper floors of the town hall on Hauptgasse and, alongside the permanent exhibition, also presents changing temporary exhibitions.

Families and Kids

Children can discover the children's stations in the permanent exhibition with the Geissli-Pass, embroider their own handkerchief, play with the mouse house or try the art of chasing. Children accompanied by adults have free admission. The museum also offers special programmes for school classes.
