Museo Nazionale del San Gottardo

The Museo Nazionale del San Gottardo is located on the Gotthard Pass near Airolo, Switzerland. The museum brings the history of the Gotthard to life from its origins around 1200 to the present day, with tunnels and caverns carved into the rock as the leitmotif. The permanent exhibition runs through seven themed rooms, from the Uri Hole to the AlpTransit base tunnel, from power station tunnels to mountain military fortifications. Housed in the historic "Vecchia Sosta" building, the museum also hosts changing temporary exhibitions in collaboration with ALPS, the Swiss Alpine Museum in Bern.
