Museo della civiltà contadina del Mendrisiotto

The Museo della civiltà contadina del Mendrisiotto is an ethnographic museum located in Stabio, Switzerland, housed in a former school building from 1856 in the historic center. Its collections, gathered over about 45 years, focus on the agricultural and rural heritage of the Mendrisiotto region and comprise around 20,000 objects. The permanent exhibition presents 23 themes across two floors with 441 objects, covering crafts such as woodworking, blacksmithing, beekeeping, dairy production, and textile fibers. The museum also hosts changing temporary exhibitions and offers a library and archives for research.

Families and Kids

The museum is designed with a special exhibition level for children, offering 27 activities and simulators that let them try milking, sawing wood, making butter, searching for the queen bee, and more. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. The permanent exhibition also includes 6 activity tables where children can, for example, prepare a seed pot to take home.
