Musée Bolo

The Musée Bolo in Lausanne, Switzerland, is the Swiss museum of computer science, digital culture and video games, housed on the EPFL campus. It holds one of Europe's most important collections of computers and objects related to information technology, including Swiss microcomputers, supercomputers such as several Cray machines, software, video games, books and magazines. The permanent exhibition presents around eighty emblematic machines and objects, while the museum also hosts changing temporary exhibitions.

The museum is suitable for visitors of all ages, including families. Guided tours for families and individuals are organized on the first Saturday of each month, with a recommended age of 10 and up for the temporary exhibition tour. Children under 10 enter free of charge.

    Guided tours are offered and last about one hour. They are conducted in French, with an English-speaking guide available on request. Tours are led by volunteers and payment is made by TWINT or cash at the end of the tour.

    The museum is closed during the Christmas school holidays. It may also be temporarily closed for major renovation works within the museum space.

    Yes, the museum welcomes donations of objects to enrich its collections. More than 95% of the machines in the collection come from donations. For object donations, you are asked to send some photos and a list of the material.
  • Can I have old data media read or recovered?
    The museum can attempt to recover data from old floppy disks, magnetic tapes or punched cards. Some recoveries are simple, while others require hours of research and electronic work. Each case is studied individually before a result can be guaranteed.
  • How large is the museum's collection?
    The collection comprises more than 5,000 computers and gaming consoles, 8,000 software titles and 15,000 books and magazines. Only about 3% of the collection is on display in the exhibition space.
