Murten Castle

Schloss Murten (Murten Castle) is a medieval castle in the town of Murten in the canton of Fribourg, Switzerland. Built in 1255 by Count Peter II of Savoy, the castle features a quadrangular keep known as the "Luegisland" from which Adrian von Bubenberg oversaw the Battle of Murten. Over the centuries it served as a residence for bailiffs, a hospital, prison and barracks, and today houses the Prefecture of the Lake District. The castle tower is open to visitors from late June to the end of October.
