Meersburg Castle

Burg Meersburg, located in Meersburg on Lake Constance in Germany, is the oldest inhabited castle in Germany. The self-guided tour leads through more than 35 furnished rooms, from the bathhouse and the armory hall to the dungeon and the stately prince-bishop's hall, bringing medieval everyday life to life. The castle is closely associated with the poet Annette von Droste-Hülshoff, who lived and died here, and whose rooms can be visited. The castle also hosts changing events such as the 'Belebte Burg' living-history weekends.

    Dogs are allowed in the castle museum on a leash; visitors remain responsible for their dog, especially in the centuries-old rooms.
  • Is photography allowed in the castle?
    Photography for private memories is welcome. Flash and tripods are not allowed, nor is systematic photographing of individual pieces. Images may not be published or used commercially.
  • Is the castle barrier-free?
    As a castle built over many centuries, Meersburg is not barrier-free. Wheelchair users can visit parts of the museum, including the armory hall, the Droste rooms, the castle garden and the prince-bishop's hall. Guests with disabilities receive a 10% discount on admission.
  • Can I visit the castle with a pushchair?
    Because many stairs must be climbed, it is not recommended to go through the castle with a pushchair. You can leave the pushchair at the museum entrance and collect it after your visit.
