Matterhorn Museum – Zermatlantis
The Matterhorn Museum – Zermatlantis in Zermatt, Switzerland, is a subterranean museum that reveals the history of the village of Zermatt, from its origins as a mountain farming village to a world-famous alpine resort. It tells the story of the triumph and tragedy of the first ascent of the Matterhorn in 1865, including the original snapped rope from that fateful day. Visitors can see original houses and interiors, a multimedia room, and finds such as a Neolithic stone axe and the remains of a 16th-century mercenary. The museum also hosts changing temporary exhibitions and cultural events.
