Marzili Open-Air Pool

The Marzili open-air pool in Bern, Switzerland, is one of the largest and best-known river baths in the country, located directly on the Aare with a view of the Federal Palace. It offers a 50-metre swimming pool, two 25-metre non-swimmer pools, a diving pool with 1m and 3m boards, a toddler pool, a playground, a sunbathing lawn, a beach volleyball court and an outdoor fitness park. A separate voluntary FKK area for women ("Paradiesli") and the "Bueberseeli" with an Aare swimming channel complete the offer. The facility is currently being renovated in several stages.

Families and Kids

The Marzili offers a toddler pool, a playground and a large sunbathing lawn, making it suitable for families with children. Parents are asked to keep small children within arm's reach at all times, and swimming in the Aare is only for experienced swimmers.

    There are no specific age restrictions for children. However, parents and guardians are asked to keep small children within arm's reach at all times, and swimming in the Aare is only recommended for experienced swimmers.
  • Is the Marzili pool wheelchair accessible?
    Yes, the grounds, WC, shower and restaurant are wheelchair accessible, and there is a staffed reception. A pool lift is available free of charge for people in wheelchairs, and there is a disabled parking space directly at the main entrance.
  • Is the Marzili pool free to enter?
    Yes, the Marzili open-air pool can be visited free of charge, like most of Bern's open-air pools. Only the Ka-We-De pool charges an entrance fee.
  • Can I swim in the Aare from the Marzili pool?
    Yes, the Marzili offers direct access to the Aare via a swimming channel into the Bueberseeli. Swimming in the river is at your own risk and only recommended for experienced swimmers.
