Maison Rousseau et Littérature

Located in the heart of Geneva's Old Town, Switzerland, in the birthplace of Enlightenment philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau, the Maison Rousseau et Littérature is a six-storey house dedicated to literature. Its permanent exhibition, the Parcours Rousseau, presents seven thematic niches confronting Rousseau's work and ideas with the concerns of our time, moving from texts to objects, quotations, images and music. The house also serves Swiss, francophone and world literatures, bringing together writers, translators, readers, students and thinkers for debate. It hosts changing temporary exhibitions and guided tours.

Families and Kids

Children up to 12 years old enter the permanent exhibition free of charge. The MRL offers philosophical workshops for young children and youth activities, as well as school programmes for pupils of all levels.

    Yes. The building is accessible at ground level and a lift serves all floors. The MRL also offers privatised visits for people with reduced mobility and has wide spaces facilitating access for wheelchairs and pushchairs.
