Leukerbad
Leukerbad is a mountain resort in the Valais Alps in southern Switzerland, known for its natural thermal springs. The village sits in a high Alpine valley surrounded by peaks, with three public thermal baths and the Gemmi and Torrent cable cars linking relaxation in warm water with the surrounding mountain world. Wellness, hiking and skiing lie close together here all year round. The destination also includes the neighbouring municipalities of Albinen, Inden and Varen, offering a rural, nature-rich character with vineyards and Alpine scenery. It is a compact, village-centred region rather than a big city, where thermal bathing, mountain excursions and outdoor sports define daily life.
Summer activities
In summer, Leukerbad offers hiking through the colourful mountain world, guided walks exploring the region's flora and fauna, and the Gemmi and Torrent cable cars that open up the high Alpine landscape. The Summer Card provides daily unlimited access to these cable cars plus one daily entry to a public thermal bath. Trail running is also a highlight, with the Wildstrubel by UTMB event circling the Wildstrubel massif between the cantons of Valais and Bern.
Winter activities
In winter, Leukerbad is a ski destination with the Torrent ski area and the Gemmi, offering prepared pistes and powder snow. Ski tickets for the winter season can be bought in advance at flexible prices, and the Magic Pass opens up over 100 summer and winter destinations with more than 2,000 kilometres of pistes. After a day on the slopes, the thermal baths and sauna worlds provide warm relaxation.
Culture and entertainment
Leukerbad's cultural life is shaped by seasonal festivals and events. In early September the Ländlertreffen brings folk music formations from across Switzerland to perform in an imposing rock arena, filling the streets and restaurants with music. The autumn season features traditional harvest festivals combining tradition, enjoyment and conviviality, while the Wildstrubel by UTMB trail running event adds a sporting dimension to the calendar.
