Laténium

The Laténium is an archaeological park and museum located in Hauterive, near the city of Neuchâtel in Switzerland. Its permanent exhibition, "Yesterday... Between the Mediterranean and the North Sea", spans 500 centuries of local history across 8 rooms covering 2200 m², from the Renaissance back to the Palaeolithic Era. The museum houses more than 545,000 regional archaeological objects and is a major research centre for the UNESCO World Heritage prehistoric pile dwellings around the Alps. An open-air archaeological park with full-scale reconstructions, including a Bronze Age pile dwelling and a Roman barge, complements the museum, which also hosts changing temporary exhibitions.

The Laténium offers many activities for children and families. In the permanent exhibition, mini-labs introduce the archaeologist's craft, while games, films and scale models enhance the visit. The archaeological park features a children's playground and is ideal for a picnic, and creative workshops and birthday parties are available for children.

Opening hours

The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00, closed on Mondays, 25 December and 1 January. The archaeological park is freely accessible all year round.
