Jewish Museum of Switzerland

The Jewish Museum of Switzerland in Basel is the only Jewish museum in Switzerland and preserves and presents Jewish history and present. The permanent exhibition «Kult, Kultur, Kunst» shows on two floors the history of Judaism from Roman antiquity to the present in Switzerland, from equal rights via the Zionist Congresses to the reappraisal of Switzerland's wartime history. The collection comprises objects from 2000 years, including silver ceremonial objects, ritual textiles and medieval Jewish gravestones. The museum also offers changing special exhibitions and an extensive programme of guided tours and events.

    Yes, a public guided tour of the permanent exhibition takes place every last Sunday of the month at 3 pm, is included in the admission price and can be visited without registration.
  • Is the museum accessible for wheelchair users?
    Yes, the museum is wheelchair accessible. The exhibition rooms are accessible via a lift (89 × 144 cm) and the WC is on the ground floor. However, there is no disabled parking space directly in front of the museum.
  • Is there an offer for children at the museum?
    Yes, children aged four to twelve receive a free treasure map and a key ring at the reception, with which they can discover nine interactive stations in the exhibition.
  • Can tickets be purchased online?
    No, the Jewish Museum of Switzerland does not sell tickets online. For questions or to announce a visit, you can contact the museum.

    Yes, guided tours of the synagogue as well as combined museum and synagogue tours are offered. Synagogue tours are only possible Monday to Friday, on Fridays only until 4 pm. A synagogue dress code applies.
