Jegenstorf Castle is located in Jegenstorf near Bern in Switzerland and is a baroque patrician country estate from 1720 with a history of almost 900 years. The castle museum presents a high-quality collection of Bernese domestic culture from the 17th to 19th centuries, focusing on Baroque, Rococo and Classicism, including the largest collection of baroque tiled stoves in Switzerland and the largest collection of Bernese portraits. The extensive castle park with carp pond, orangery and historic trees invites visitors to stroll. During the Second World War the castle served as the command post of General Henri Guisan and it hosts changing exhibitions.

The castle museum is open from 2 May to 11 October 2026, Tuesday to Saturday from 13:30 to 17:30 and Sunday from 11:00 to 17:30 (last admission 17:00). The park is open daily all year round from 08:00, until 18:00 outside the season and until 22:00 during the season.

    Yes, the park is open daily all year round from 08:00, until 18:00 outside the museum season and until 22:00 during the season. Staying in the park outside these hours is not permitted.
  • Is the castle accessible for wheelchair users?
    The park paths are wheelchair accessible and there is a wheelchair-accessible toilet in the park. However, the main entrance to the castle is only reachable via a multi-step staircase, and the upper floors and keep are only accessible via stairs (no lift). Accessibility is therefore strongly limited for people with mobility impairments.
  • Are there guided tours and experience tours available?
    Yes, the castle offers a classic guided tour as well as scenic experience tours such as 'Audienz in Stärnebrächts Residenz', 'Staubwedel und Puderperücke' and 'Dr Franzos – Zeitreise ins Jahr 1798'. These are bookable for groups of up to 20 people, some also outside regular opening hours for a surcharge.
