International Museum of Horology

The Musée international d'horlogerie (MIH) in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, is dedicated to the history of time measurement and horology. Its collection, one of the most important in the world devoted to the history of time measurement, comprises watches and clocks from the 16th century to today, as well as tools, machines, instruments, automata, models and iconographic collections. With more than 10,000 objects, the museum also gathers historical and audiovisual archives. The museum also hosts changing temporary exhibitions.

The museum offers activities for young visitors, including workshops such as building a pocket tellurium to discover the movements of the Earth, Moon and Sun while learning watchmaking gestures (from 13 years). Children from 12 years and young people under 16 years benefit from a reduced admission.

  • Is the museum free on certain days?
    On Sundays from October to March, admission to the museum is free from 10:00 to 12:00. Admission is also free with the Neuchâtel Tourist Card.
  • Are guided tours available and how much do they cost?
    Guided tours are available by prior reservation, with one guide for a maximum of 20 people. A guided tour costs CHF 130 per guide, with a reduced rate of CHF 70 for pupils, students and apprentices of Swiss public schools on weekdays. A tactile tour for visitors with visual impairment costs CHF 130.
  • Is there a combined ticket for several museums?
    Yes, the Pass Musées La Chaux-de-Fonds allows you to also visit the Musée des beaux-arts, the Musée d'histoire, the Musée paysan et artisanal and Muzoo. This ticket is valid for 2 consecutive days.
