Fort Museum Forte Airolo

The Fort Museum Forte Airolo is located in Airolo, Switzerland, inside the historic Gotthard fortress. The museum occupies about half of the fort and showcases its military architecture with a labyrinth of tunnels and casemates, as well as the original armament including cannons, turrets and observation posts. Visitors can also see weapons installed during later modernization phases, such as machine guns and anti-aircraft guns, along with elements of the garrison's daily life. A rich documentation on the Gotthard fortress and its development, including the national reduit of General Guisan, can be studied in a specially equipped room.

    The guided tour lasts approximately 60 to 90 minutes.

    Yes, groups can reserve visits outside opening hours and outside the season. On reservation it is also possible to visit the defence fort at the entrance of the railway tunnel and the Forte di Foppa Grande.
