Champex-Lac Artillery Fort
The Champex-Lac Artillery Fort in Orsières, Switzerland, is the central pivot of the fortified system of the Grand-Saint-Bernard region. Built between 1940 and 1943 and modernized during the Cold War for a possible nuclear conflict, it was used by the Swiss army until 1998. The fort features more than 600 metres of galleries carved into the mountain and, completely invisible from the outside, could house 300 men. It is open all year round for guided tours and can also be rented for private events and overnight stays.
