Botanical Garden Bern

The Botanical Garden of the University of Bern, located in the city of Bern, Switzerland, has been a diverse and colorful oasis since 1859. It presents over 6,000 plant species from around the world, organized into more than 60 areas according to habitats, geographical aspects, ecological requirements, systematic criteria, and human use. The garden includes seven greenhouses where visitors can immerse themselves in different vegetation zones, as well as an alpine garden, useful, ornamental and medicinal plants, and ecological areas. It also hosts changing temporary exhibitions and educational programs for all ages.

Families and Kids

The garden offers a free puzzle game ('Zeitheldinnen auf der Spur') recommended for ages 8 and up, which can be played alone or in groups throughout the year. Children must be supervised, and there are dedicated children and family programs as well as school offerings from kindergarten through all school levels.

Open daily; the garden grounds from 08:00 to 19:30 from May to September (until 21:00 during Bern summer holidays) and from 08:00 to 17:00 from October to April; the greenhouses are open daily from 08:00 to 17:00 all year round.

    Dogs are allowed on a short leash in the outdoor areas of the garden. Assistance dogs are also permitted inside the greenhouses.
