Bergün Filisur

Bergün Filisur
Bergün Filisur is a tourism region in the heart of Graubünden in eastern Switzerland, known as the 'railway village' for its UNESCO World Heritage Rhaetian Railway heritage. The region combines intact, picturesque villages with a high-mountain Alpine landscape, lying between the Flüela and Albula passes. It is not dominated by a lake but by the Albula valley and the Landwasser river, whose famous viaduct is the region's landmark. The area is rural and nature-rich, part of the Parc Ela nature park, offering both sports and tranquillity. The villages of Bergün, Filisur, Preda and Alvaneu form the central hubs of this mountain destination.

Summer activities

Summer in Bergün Filisur is dominated by hiking on well-maintained trails through the high-mountain landscape, including the Panoramaweg Darlux, the Bahnerlebnisweg Albula railway theme trail and the classic 4 Viadukte Wanderung. The multi-day Kesch-Trek leads from hut to hut between the Flüela and Albula passes, while the Parc Ela trek crosses the region in 18 stages. The Darlux chairlift carries hikers up to La Diala, and the Landwasser Express runs to the Landwasser viaduct. Trottinett rides down the Albula pass road, the Bergbadi outdoor pool, mountain biking and wildlife safaris round out the summer offers.

Culture and entertainment

Bergün Filisur is rich in living Alpine customs and traditions, with a strong Romansh cultural heritage. The region celebrates Silvesterrufen and Sternsingen at New Year, the Buaneja satirical custom on 6 January and the Chalandamarz spring festival on 1 March, when children parade through the villages with bells and cowbells. The Landwasser experience area combines railway, culture, agriculture, forest and water themes around the Landwasser viaduct, and the Albula railway museum and local museum offer cultural insights. Cultural walks through Bergün and Filisur and the Graubünden culture portal round out the offering.
