Basler Papiermühle

The Basler Papiermühle in Basel, Switzerland, is the Swiss Museum for Paper, Writing and Printing. Within the walls of a medieval paper mill, the museum leads visitors over four floors through the history of paper, writing and script up to the finished book. Authentic workshops alternate with exhibition sections where visitors can try their hand, for example at papermaking, writing with a quill, printing or marbling. The museum also houses a notable collection with rarities over a thousand years old and offers changing special exhibitions.
Families and Kids
Children can make paper themselves at the hands-on stations, write with quill and pen, type on old typewriters, print and experiment in the marbling workshop. The museum recommends a visit from the age of 6; preschool children under 6 are not allowed to take part in the hands-on stations for safety reasons.
