Basel Historical Museum – Haus zum Kirschgarten
The Haus zum Kirschgarten in Basel, Switzerland, is a museum dedicated to the domestic life of Basel's bourgeoisie in the 18th and 19th centuries. Housed in a Louis-Seize town palace built between 1775 and 1780 for silk ribbon manufacturer Johann Rudolf Burckhardt, the museum displays period rooms, furniture, ceramics, watches, scientific instruments, toys, and dollhouses. The museum also hosts changing temporary exhibitions.
Families and Kids
The Haus zum Kirschgarten offers family-friendly activities including workshops and guided tours. Children can explore the historic rooms and learn how a wealthy family lived, what children played with, and what servants did. The museum also hosts music ateliers for children with adult companions.
