Antikenmuseum Basel and Sammlung Ludwig
The Antikenmuseum Basel und Sammlung Ludwig in Basel, Switzerland, houses the largest and most diverse collection of ancient cultural artefacts in Switzerland, spanning over 5,000 years of Mediterranean culture from Egypt, the Near East, Greece and Italy (4000 BC to 400 AD). Its permanent collection includes world-renowned Greek vases, around 600 Egyptian artefacts, oriental art from Mesopotamia and Iran, and Greek and Roman sculptures. The museum also operates the Skulpturhalle Basel, one of the world's most important collections of over 2,200 plaster casts of ancient sculptures. It regularly presents changing temporary exhibitions alongside its permanent displays.
Families and Kids
The museum offers interactive children's tours through the Egyptian and Greek vase exhibitions, with a children's course inviting playful discovery. Workshops for various age groups let children model clay, make plaster casts and explore ancient cultures, and children's birthday parties can be held at the museum for ages 7 to 10.
