Skilift Tanzboden

Skilift Tanzboden is a small ski area above Ebnat-Kappel in the Toggenburg region. A surface lift runs from the Dicken base station at 885 m above sea level to the Himmelstörli at 1,181 m; a pony lift complements the offer near the base station. The area is particularly suited to children and beginners but also has pistes for demanding skiers, and it serves as a starting point for snow and ski tours to the Tanzboden.

The area is particularly suited to children and beginners, and the lift's length and gradient make it ideal for learning to ride a surface lift. A children's area with a pony lift is located near the base station, and private ski lessons for children are available.

Food and drinks

The Skistübli is a cosy restaurant with a sun terrace directly below the Himmelstörli mountain station in the middle of the piste, offering a wide selection of food and drink and open during lift operation. Near the base station, the Kiosk has 20 indoor and 30 terrace seats and serves hot and cold drinks and small dishes. The Skihütte Stangen of the Ski Club Ebnat-Kappel, above 1,100 m on the piste, is open on winter weekends and also offers overnight accommodation.

Opening hours

Pistes are open daily from 09:00 to 16:20; on Thursdays and Fridays there is additional night skiing on the floodlit piste from 19:30 to 22:00.

Admission fees

Tickets are available as single rides, multi-ride cards, day, half-day, 11 o'clock, evening and season passes, with separate rates for children/youths (up to 18) and adults. A family ticket covers up to 2 adults and all their own children, and group rates apply from 15 people with one free ticket per 15. Season-pass holders receive 50% off day and half-day tickets at the partner ski area Bergbahnen Wildhaus, and a combined Tanzboden–Wolzenalp pass including night skiing is also offered. All prices are in CHF including VAT; children up to their 6th birthday ski free, and tickets are issued on a data carrier against a CHF 5 deposit.

FAQ

  • Is night skiing offered at Tanzboden?
    Yes, on Thursdays and Fridays the floodlit piste is open for night skiing, with the lift running from 19:30 to 22:00. A combined offer with fondue at the Skistübli or raclette at the Kiosk is available, and clubs and companies benefit from group rates.
  • What is the TANZBODEN sledging offer?
    Guests can ride specially built rental sledges up the surface lift and descend on a sledging run separated from the ski piste, suitable for children and adults. Only rental sledges are transported by the lift; private sledges are not. Sledges must be reserved by phone at 071 571 29 67.
  • Are ski lessons available at Tanzboden?
    Yes, private ski courses for children, youths and adults are offered as single or group lessons (Martin Giger, tel. 077 538 06 79 or 071 993 11 55). This complements the ski club Ebnat-Kappel's youth training, which takes place every Saturday afternoon.
  • What should be noted about the valley run to Ebnat-Kappel?
    The valley run from the Dicken base station to Ebnat-Kappel is not marked and not controlled and is undertaken at your own risk. The same applies to descending after 22:00, as piste control takes place at 22:00.
  • How do I reach Tanzboden by public transport?
    A ski bus runs on request (tel. 071 571 29 67, registration between 09:00 and 16:00), departing at 19:00 from the station with a stop at Kronenbrugg and returning at 22:15 to the station. This service is aimed at night skiing.
